The Glorious Return of Miki Howard

Only a handful of R&B ingénues can say that they have actually had a number one hit… even fewer can say that they have had two ("Ain't Nobody Like You" and "Ain't Nothin' In the World."). With a showering of Top five singles ("Baby Be Mine, That's what Love Is, Until You Come Back To Me, Come Share My Love" and her signature, "Love under New Management"), garnering her a Soul Train award win for best new artist and American Music Awards nomination for favorite R&B/Soul female, Miki Howard has had the kind of success that many singers only dream of. Late eighties and early nineties R&B was ruled by three women- Whitney, Anita and Miki. A destructive marriage, motherhood and the loss of two of the loves of her life, her mother and R&B crooning powerhouse, Gerald Levert put the professional breaks on Miki's skyrocketing career.

Without her preceding chart success in the late nineties, Miki still managed to release great albums, "Miki sings Billie" after her portrayal as the legendary Billie Holiday in Spike Lee's "Malcolm X., "Can't Count Me Out" and "Live Plus." She even snagged a Grammy nomination in 2001 for her album "Three Wishes." Her last release in 2006 was a selection of covers, "Pillow Talk- Miki sings the Classics."

After a few years of reflection, reinvention and emotional rebirth, Miki Howard has come full circle as a woman and an artist. She now knows what she does best and has the power to control her career the way she sees fit. Stronger as an individual, Miki can now shine to her fullest potential. Her latest release in 2008 is "Private Collection".
"Private Collection" is the kind of record that you "live" to." says Miki. "You play it in the car, play it while you clean your house, and play it at ****tail parties. Its everyday music, that's the kind of record this is. I raised my children, matured and have grown as a woman and as an artist and "Private Collection" reflects that. This was the first CD that I did "my way." It's not anyone else's vision of Miki Howard… It's my vision of myself."
With five original songs produced by Miki and the ultra talented, Chucki Booker and five outstanding standards produced by Miki and Brandon McCune, "Private Collection" will prove to be her most versatile work to date. From the jazzy swing of "Crazee", the lush feel of "Favorite Time of the Year", the down home blues vibrato of "Beer for Breakfast, the Hip Hop swagger of the controversial "She" and the R&B powerhouse, "You Made Me Love You", Miki once again, soars like an unstoppable phoenix. The beautiful re-makes of her favorite Jazz standards, "Skylark, Secret Love, Days of Wine and Roses, Guess Who?" and "Counting My Blessings" rival the best vocal performances ever of these great compositions. You can only purchase "Private Collection" on Miki's website www.miki-howard.com. I'm sure that it will not disappoint Miki Howard fans… past and present. "Private Collection" is the continuation of the unbelievably solid musical legacy that is Miki Howard.
